Prioritize Your Security

Protecting Yourself During the Holiday Season

Tony Rosas, UFCU Information Security Officer, visited KXAN's Studio 512 to discuss measures you should take to insure your holiday is safe and scam-free.

Protecting yourself from malicious intent is a job for every day of the year, but it’s even more important during the holiday season.

Things you can do to protect yourself:

  • Lock up your personal items when shopping at the mall, stores, etc.
  • Be aware of your surrounding and try to shop with someone else.
  • Don’t click emails with links or open attachments. Instead, go to the merchant’s website and find what you’re looking for.
  • Be sure all of your network devices (computer, cell phone, etc.) are current on patches and updates.
  • Update your antivirus software and definitions.
  • Sign up for alerts from via online banking and your credit card providers so that you can monitor your accounts for suspicious activity.
